Ekaratne Associates was founded by Mr. Tivanka Ekaratne, an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. A leading Lawyer in Sri Lanka, Mr. Ekaratne hails from a legal background in which his father Justice Kumar Ekaratne, was a High Court Judge and grandfather S. Ekaratne, was an eminent Counsel. Mr. Ekaratne has specialized in the fields of International Trade Law and Customs Law and currently is the leading counsel in the respective fields.  He was the President of the Colombo Law Society 2019/20 and was the youngest to be elected to that prestigious position.

Mr. Ekaratne successfully completed a Master of Laws Degree in International Trade Law at University of Wales, United Kingdom and a Postgraduate Degree in Intellectual Property Law. This is testament to his multi-disciplinary expertise. Additionally, he is currently reading for a Master of Laws degree in International Business and a PhD in Customs Law, all the while serving as a Consultant to many companies, both local and overseas.

Moreover, Mr. Ekaratne was also a member of the panel appointed to propose amendments to the Customs Ordinance in Sri Lanka. In 2021 February, Mr. Ekaratne was appointed to the Cabinet approved Experts Committee on the Establishment of Courts Administration Service. Mr. Ekaratne is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK, International Bar Association, Asia Pacific Regional Forum and Judges’ Forum of IBA. He was also an Executive Committee member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka 2019 to 2021. He is also the receiver of the Prestigious Selvedurai Sivarasai Award. Mr. Ekaratne was recognized as a Top Professional in 2020 by “LMD Business Who’s Who”. He also created history by becoming the youngest Author of a Legal publication when he published his book “Digest of cases on Customs Ordinance” in 2010.
